MFG MODE Message on Printers

What Does It Mean? Why Does It Appear? And How Do We Deal With It?

First: What is MFG MODE?

“MFG MODE” stands for Manufacturing Mode.

This mode is used in HP factories to test printer components before they are released to the user. Simply put, this mode should not be enabled for you as an end user.

Why Does It Appear?

The Most Common Reasons:

  • The printer is new and hasn’t yet exited manufacturing mode.
  • The printer was reset incorrectly.
  • The firmware update was incomplete or unofficial.
  • There is a malfunction in the internal software.

Is This Mode Dangerous?

Yes and No

The printer may sometimes function normally while in MFG MODE, but many features will be disabled.

  • Duplex printing
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Some software commands

Any upcoming update could completely disable the printer.

In short, don’t rely on the printer in this mode.

How Do You Deal With the Problem?

First: Things You Can Do ✅

  • Restart: Try turning off the printer and completely disconnecting it from the power supply for one minute, then turn it back on.
  • Update Official Firmware: From the HP website.
  • Perform Official Factory Reset: Through the printer settings.
  • Contact Technical Support or an authorized service center like ours at Prink.

Second: Things You Should Not Do ❌

  • Do not try programming codes from the internet.
  • Do not tamper with Service Mode.
  • Do not install modified or unofficial firmware without experience.
  • Do not attempt to open the printer internally to remove the message.
